I read the directions ut I am still pretty confused..what does buff mean? What kind of cloth should i use? I am using on a toyota camry. I have a bottle of turtle wax ';super hard shell';. Any tips or things i should know before starting? How do i apply turtle wax to my car?
Step 1 - you should be using an anti-oxidizer like a claybar kit, first. This gets all of the contaminants off of your paint.
Step 2 - you should use a car polish to bring out the color of your paint.
Step 3 - you should apply the wax to protect your paint.
You should use a microfiber towels and applicators for all steps. Cotton, including terry cloths, are too abrasive for your paint and will cause swirl marks.
Make sure your paint is cool and you are doing this in the garage or shaded area. Never apply wax in direct sunlight.
Also, make sure you dont get any wax on the plastic pieces of your vehicle or they will fade.
You will place the product on the applicator and rub, in a circular motion, onto your paint (it will look cloudy). Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then wipe off with a separate microfiber towel. How do i apply turtle wax to my car?
It's easiest if you drop in at Walmart and buy a couple of inexpensive 6'; Pocket Applicator Pads, a pack of terry cloth towels and a pack of *micro fiber colths in the automotive department before starting your project.
If your paint on the car is particularly dull and oxodized you want car wax which contains a *cleaner with the wax. First wash your car with car wash soap and let it dry. Position your car in partial or full shade. Using the pocket microfiber applicator pad rub the car wax on one section of the car at a time. For instance do the trunk lid first in an increasing circular motion using pressure with your hand. When the car wax has covered the trunk lid, immediately buff it off with the terry cloth towels folding it in alternating folds. Occasoinally snap the towel out and continue. When the hazy wax coating is all off, follow up with a micro-fiber towel. You should see the difference in the shine on the painted surface.
Do a door or hood next. Don't forget, one section at a time. It's pretty tough work for a lady so if you get discouraged have a beer and take a break. Stay out of direct sunlight as the wax comes off easier. If you are so tired and you're getting PO'd wait a day and do another section or two. When you're all done pat yourself on the back, the next time you do your car it'll be much *easier! The first time is a lot of work. Every time there after you will not have to rub as hard to get great results.
There are brands of car cleaner and polish which are far better than old Turtle wax. The Mothers Three step system will give you much better results and the final coat of the Mothers three wax system is pure carnuba car wax. It will last up to one and a half years instead of old Turtle's few months.
There's another great cleaner and polish all in one called Presta
Chroma 1500 Polish. Major automotive paint supply shops have this product. It's avalable on line also. It will positively knock your socks off. It goes on quite easy and comes off easier than most car waxes.
you should be using microfiber applicator pads and towels
first, wash your car
( you should be also really claying it, cleaning it, and maybe even polishing it)
but you can always do that next time
take a MF applicator pad, apply the wax to it
and put it on your car in circular motions
you dont need to much of it, thin coats
i do it panel by panel
once your done with one, move onto the next
go all around the car
then by the time you get done with it, the wax where you started should be dry
take a MF towel, fold it in fours, this way you have 8 different sections to use the towel, and just wipe it off, make sure to get it all off,
its hard to describe buffing, just look it up on youtube or something
you really dont even need to buff, its wax, so it doesnt matter
then you can do a final wipe
which is where you take a MF towel, and slowly wipe down your car, to make sure you get all the wax off
and try to stay away from trim, a lot of people usually mask the trim off with painters tape
if you do get it on, just wipe it off the trim quick
it migth still stain, but thers trim cleaners for it
any more questions just email me
then you can apply a second coat if you want
and IMO
theres a lot of better waxes out there than turtle wax
only turtle wax i would use is the ice polish (its actually a wax)
and countrys boy is wrong
you dont apply wax, then wipe it off right away
and no wax lasts over a year
at most they last a couple months..
take a small towel reg towel/wet it and wring it out as much as you possibley can/have car clean and dry in a shaded or sheltered area/pour some wax either on the car or on the towel /fold towel so you have about an 8by8 square/ and start rubbing/while you are rubbing you will see the results on the surface and you can adjust as you get experience. make sure you dont overpower the surface with the wax as after it dries you will have to take it off with another towel(dry). /dont get on plastic trim and plastic parts ie; mirrors and body mouldings just remember to frequently flip the wet cloth to different sides as it gets dirty
BUFF is what you will be waxing your car 2 times a month. But is also means to continue to wipe the way off until the paint is shiny.
Buff means to remove with a soft cloth and keep rubbung untilit shines..cloth baby diapers work great or go to an auto parts store and get some polishing cloths
