i would presume your black hair is natural, so as a colour technician i would advise you to go to a salon as they could tell you what colour would suit you and also some colours will take your hair ginger as black hair is very warm when lightened. to avoid disaster and causing you to spend alot of money for a colour correction go to a local reputable salonHow do I apply highligts to a black hair?
Go to a good salon and they can handle the questions well. If you don't want bleach in hair, a suggestion would be using henna which adds brownish blondes highlight on to the hair depending how long you put it.

It depends on what color you are going for. The box usually shows you how the color will look on your hair based on what color you are starting from. If you want the exact color that you purchase, you will have to lighten your hair first. You shouldn't have to bleach it unless you are going a lot lighter. I'm assuming your hair is naturally black and not dyed. If it's dyed, definitely go to a professional. Otherwise a box color should be fine.
I have naturally very black hair and I have to tell you to get your hair professionally done. Black hair is very hard to lighten. If you don't get it done by the right person, your hair can end up looking brassy. It may be a little bit more expensive, but well worth the cost.
just add bleach where u want the highlights then add ur colour
